Q. Do I need to download any College Publisher software?
A. College Publisher is a Web-based publishing solution; therefore you do not have to download any software or purchase additional hardware to get up and running. Once you sign on with College Publisher, your site is posted on the Internet and you’re ready to start publishing.

Q. Do I need any technical expertise to use College Publisher?
A. No, College Publisher’s basic functionality is very easy to use, enabling anyone to begin publishing following a quick demo. We also have a support team if you have any questions or need help.

Q. Will we still need to hard code any HTML?
A. No, it is not mandatory. However, if your paper wants to make use of College Publisher’s broad functionality, coding skills such as HTML will be necessary.

Q. What about new staff - will they need extensive training?
A. The easy-to-use interface allows new staff to navigate the system and quickly begin publishing online.

Q. Does the staff have to be in the newsroom to publish the paper?
A. No. Since College Publisher is a Web-based publishing system, your staffers and contributors can submit articles simply by cutting and pasting copy through their own Web browser.

Q. How does the editor’s control differ from that of reporters and other contributors?
A. The Editor-in-Chief and other key section editors can be issued superior access privileges, allowing them the ability to approve stories, change the physical appearance of the paper, manage staff accounts and monitor site traffic.

Q. How long will it take to get up and running with College Publisher?
A. Depending on the degree of customization, College Publisher can have you publishing on your new site within 2-3 weeks.

Q. What level of customization will our paper receive?
A. Our design team will work closely with you to capture your vision for the newspaper or to implement your current design.

Q. What is the cost of College Publisher?
A. College Publisher does not charge its partner newspapers.

Q. How does College Publisher make money on this deal?
A. As College Publisher provides the technology free-of-charge; we retain the right to place banners, buttons or links on each site. In addition, College Publisher will require a certain amount of advertising in your print edition, based upon the bandwidth your new site will use. College Publisher will only place content that is relevant to the university market and will not support Tobacco, Alcohol or pornography advertising.

Q. What about the advertising initiatives of the Newspaper itself?
A. All remaining space on the newspaper site is available to the paper for its own ad sales efforts. College Publisher incorporates an advertising management system that enables schools to solicit, post and track advertising activity online. The newspaper will retain 100% of revenues it generates through online ad sales.

Q. Where is the online Newspaper hosted?
A. College Publisher hosts its network on its own servers and takes care of all hosting costs and technological concerns at its state-of-the-art data center, which resides on the top performing DCN in the nation.

Q. What about Domain names?
A. If you have an existing domain name, you can use that. If you do not have a domain name, College Publisher will secure one for.

Q. What software does the College Publisher interface support?
A. College Publisher allows you to use a whole host of multimedia files, from MP3 to QuickTime. The following is a list of what we currently support, however, this is constantly updated and we can respond to almost any requirement:

Q. What is the duration of the contract between the newspaper and College Publisher?
A. The newspaper is required to sign a one-year contract with College Publisher.

Q. Will our content be used on any other news sites?
A. Not without your consent. Editors and reporters have the choice to syndicate each article within the College Publisher Network. This allows any other school paper using the College Publisher service to pick-up a story while giving your paper full recognition.

Q. Does College Publisher incorporate an archiving feature?
A. All papers have a full text search feature and an automatic archive mechanism, which archives content by date and author.
